The Georges in Peru

It's Weird being the same Age as Old People

01 Aug 2025

Tuesday, we were talking with a couple of the youth after playing volleyball together in the park.  I asked David if he went to church.  He said that he did go almost every week.  His grandmother used to go with him, but she's "gotten old" and "doesn't get out much anymore." "How old is she?" I dared to ask, envisioning a frail 80-something year old.  "62!" David replied.  "I'm almost that old!" I told him, which incited an expression of amazment/confusion on his face.

Yesterday, we helped one of our church families build a kiosk for the mom to sell food at the local elementary school.  We are in 'winter vacation' right now, so it was a good time to do a project like this while there aren't kids in school.  The school director was very interested and came and helped for an hour or two as well!  Without saying a word, I think I convinced him that he needs a cordless drill!  Pray that this new business helps this family get their finances in a better place.

Pastor Elvis and his family are in Arequipa for two weeks for some conferences and vacation time, so we are keeping the ship afloat until he returns.  Pray that Sunday's services go well in their absence.
